Mrs. Sarah J. Sturdevant- Death Follows Fracture of Hip Four Week[sic] Ago
Mrs. Sarah Jane Sturdevant, 86, widow of John H. Sturdevant, of 103 Tompkins Street died this morning following an illness of four weeks following a fracture of the hip. She had been in poor health for the past year.
Mrs. Sturdevant was born in Fleming, Cayuga County, February 14, 1845, a daughter of the late Artemas and Eunice Benham Reed. She lived nearly all her life in Cortland, having resided on Tompkins Street for about 65 years. She was married to John Herrick Sturdevant May 13, 1875. Her husband died 10 years ago.
She was a member of the First Methodist Church and a charter member of the Foreign Missionary Society. Mrs. Sturdevant was characterized by her many friends and relatives as a very capable woman who lived for her home family and church.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Grace Miner; and three grandsons, Bertram J., Kenneth P., and Carroll Reed Miner, all of Cortland.
Private funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at the late home, 103 Tompkins Street. Friends may call Saturday afternoon. Burial will be made in the family plot of the Cortland Rural cemetery.
