The Cortland Forging Co.The story of Cortland's progress as an industrial center would be very incomplete without extended mention of ther company whose title heads this article. This industry was founded in 1889 and from its inception has set the pace in the industrial program of this city. It has carried the name of Cortland to the utmost confines of the globe, the product of this plant being in use on wagons and automobiles wherever possible for a wheel vehicle to travel.
The Cortland Forging Company manufacture carriage top and body forgings and special forgings for automobiles.
Among the well known makes of automobiles which owe their efficiency in part to this concern are: The Cadillac, Buick, Oakland, Chalmers, Hudson, and the Ford, besides several others.
The plant which is located near the Lehigh Valley tracks at the intersection of Garfield and Cleveland streets has over 25,000 square feet of floor space; is strictly modern in every detail of its equipment and is run steadily 300 days of the year furnishing employment to an average of 225 workmen, highly skilled, well paid and consequently contented. In fact their liberal policy in raising the quality of their product which is known for its high quality rather than on account of its cheapness.
